Engaging the insurance industry connects your chapter to a wide variety of professional opportunities. The insurance industry is recognizing the imminent talent gap and is investing in schools and programs across the country. Forge relationships with local/national employers and organizations to enhance your members’ experiences and learning opportunities.

Benefits of Having an External Affairs Officer/Industry Affairs Officer

  • Actively seek industry engagement opportunities for your chapter.

Tips for Success

  • Send a save-the-date at least two months before your event.

  • Email a calendar invitation, so they can store the event easily.

  • Dress for Success: Wearing business clothing (professional or casual) can make an impression with industry professionals.

  • Collect Business cards and contact individuals later.

  • Build your chapter’s network.

  • Use LinkedIn: Connecting with professionals you have spoken with keeps track of your network and allows them to see your chapter’s accomplishments. 

  • Send thank gifts, notes, and emails after interactions.

  • Collaborate and share event ideas with other chapters:

    • Alumni panel/speakers

    • Networking dinner

    • Sporting events

    • Volunteer activities with alumni.

  • Remind alumni to complete the GIS Alumni Update Form to provide their current employment & contact details.

Insurance Careers Month (ICM)

  • Keep an eye out for this industry initiative held every year in February.

  • Seeks to inspire young people to choose insurance as a career, share what makes the industry a great one to work in, and collaborate to retain emerging leaders in insurance.

  • More than 1,000 global industry organizations have come together in support of the Insurance Careers Movement!
