Community Service

Community service is a pillar of Gamma Iota Sigma! All chapters are highly encouraged to plan and execute community service events in your local communities. Every little effort counts! By volunteering and working with local communities, chapters can gain experience organizing and running events, while helping those around them. Events can range from one person to an entire chapter, and anywhere in between. Members can join a preexisting community service project or create their own.

Benefits of Having a Community Service Officer

  • Organize and manage all chapter volunteer events.

  • Plan and execute community service events in the local community.

  • Seek preexisting volunteer service projects that the chapter can join.

  • Coordinate chapter’s involvement in IICF Week of Giving (October).

Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF)

GIS has partnered with IICF to help you find and join local volunteer activities and partner with local industry professionals.

  • Go to and sign in with your chapter's login details.

    • Check-in with previous officers to determine if an account has already been established.

    • If not, create a new account for your chapter by clicking registration in the top right corner, then create an account.

  • The IICF website hosts local community service opportunities that your chapter can sign up to attend.

  • Industry professionals also have access to IICF, so there is potential for networking opportunities during these service events!

Tips for Success

  • An event is not a community service event unless it only focuses on the service project at hand.

  • Keep in mind that anyone can help out.

  • Consider hosting an inter-chapter virtual volunteer service event.

  • Take pictures and share them on your chapter's social media platforms.

  • Chapters can run/host/plan events and/or join any preexisting events.

    • Ensure that you notate in the Monthly Chapter Report whether it was an event that your chapter organized vs. participated in.

  • Events can be all different sizes - No event is too small to participate in!
