Career Fairs and Opportunities
GIS organizes various career fairs (both virtually and in-person) throughout the year to help student members connect with professionals within the insurance industry. A career fair occurs when multiple companies send representatives to connect with various students about potential opportunities within their company. GIS also ensures members are exposed to an ample amount of opportunities for internships and jobs within the industry.
Does GIS Host Career Fairs?
Yes, the Grand Chapter organizes various opportunities throughout the semester for GIS student members to connect with recruiters and other industry professionals. Every GIS national event (Leadership Symposium, Annual International Conference, Regional Conferences) has a career fair component to it. GIS also hosts at least one virtual career fair per semester.
Where Can I Find More Information?
Student members receive a monthly Student e-newsletter at the beginning of each month. The newsletter contains information about any upcoming events and career fairs.
Check out the events page on the GIS website for a list of upcoming national events.
Follow GIS on all social media platforms to stay informed of any upcoming events and important updates.
What Other Opportunities Are Available?
As a GIS student member, you have 24/7 access to the online GIS Career Center where you can apply for available job and internship opportunities.
Can My Chapter Host a Career Fair?
Yes, chapters have the option to host a local career fair. It is up to each chapter to determine whether the event will be exclusive to local chapter members, or open to other chapters. Either way, the Grand Chapter would be happy to help brainstorm ideas with you and provide additional support. Ensure that the Inter-Chapter Event Form is completed at least 60 days in advance of your career fair event.
The Grand Chapter has a Brazen account which we have made available to any GIS chapter that would like to host a virtual career fair. This platform is what we’ve used in previous years for our GIS virtual career fairs and is a chat-based / text-based platform (i.e. no video capability). We are offering this service to our chapters at no cost! Reach out to Tandeka Nomvete if your chapter is considering hosting a local virtual career fair. Below are some instructional videos on how this virtual platform works:
Reach out to your Admissions Office, as your college may have access to a virtual career platform that they may allow student associations to utilize.
